Personally though I would suggest using mGBA which is known to be the much better emulator. The stand alone is fine but if you use Retroarch at all use the mGBA core. If you have access to a PC (or anything capable of emulating the GBA better than a 3DS, such as a phone, Wii, etc.), I'd try transferring the save to it, reset cycling on that, and then transferring the save back to your 3DS for mGBA.
